Memory card write-protected - how to do it

If you want to prevent data on a memory card from being changed, this works via write protection. If the protection is active, however, no new content can be transferred from or to the memory card. In Windows or on the card itself, you can turn the write protection on and off.

Turn write protection on and off via the lock switch

Many memory cards are equipped with a so-called lock switch. You can usually find the small switch on the top left of the card itself or on the card adapter.

• If the switch is in the Locked position, the card is write-protected and no data on the card can be changed or deleted.
• If the switch is in the Unlocked position, the memory card can be used normally.
• It is best to check the switch position before using the card and adjust it as necessary.

How to adjust the write protection in Windows

Alternatively, you can also adjust the write protection via Windows.

1. To do this, connect the memory card via an appropriate adapter to the computer.
2. Call Explorer and click on the left in the navigation on "This PC". Dort finden Sie eine Übersicht der Datenträger.
3. Wählen Sie die Speicherkarte aus und klicken Sie das Icon mit der rechten Maustaste an, um das Kontextmenü aufzurufen. Wählen Sie dort den Punkt „Eigenschaften“ aus.
4. Wechseln Sie in den Eigenschaften zum Tab „Freigabe“ und rufen Sie die „erweiterte Freigabe“ auf.
5. Aktiveren Sie die Option „Diesen Ordner freigeben“ und klicken Sie anschließend auf „Berechtigungen“.
6. Setzen Sie den Haken bei „Vollzugriff“, um den Schreibschutz aufzuheben.
7. Klicken Sie abschließend auf „OK“, damit die Änderungen gespeichert werden.
