Star Citizen: What are aUEC? We explain the currency

The in-game currency of Star Citizen is called United Earth Credits. However, you might additionally come across the designation aUEC. We explain what that means and the plan behind it.

During the alpha phase of Star Citizen, you can spend your aUEC with a clear conscience.

You will receive your first UEC when you purchase the starter pack. The exact amount depends on the package. Additionally, you can buy UEC for real money, as explained here. But then what are aUEC?

Star Citizen: aUEC as a temporary test currency

The small "a" in aUEC comes from the fact that Star Citizen is still in the alpha phase:
  • In this regular resets are common, and with every major update.
  • All UEC you earn in the game are considered aUEC during the alpha phase and will always be reset.
  • This does not apply to your "real" UEC, which you earned with real money. These UEC remain even when you reset, because they belong permanently to your account.
During the game, however, your UEC and aUEC are simply added together. As an example:
  • Because of your starter package, 10,000 UEC belong to your account.
  • In addition, you earn another 20,000 aUEC in the game, for example through missions.
  • Your total account balance in the game is consequently 30,000 UEC.
  • On the next reset, you lose all earned aUEC, but not your "real" UEC.
