Excel: Sort by date - how to create order

In Excel you can make adjustments and sort using some filters. Probably the best known and most commonly used sorting is assigning entries by date. In Excel, the whole thing works very easily and can be achieved very quickly.

Excel: Sort by date - here's how to do it

To sort entries in Excel by date, you need to make a few settings beforehand, which will make the sorting work for sure.
  1. Select the column where you entered the data.
  2. Now click in the upper tab on "Start" and further on "Number".
  3. Now you can select in the tab "Number format" that the entries are data.
  4. Now switch again to "Start" and look for the entry "Sort and filter".
  5. Now click on this entry and select "Sort by date".
  6. In which direction the sorting procedure should act for you is up to you.

Why doesn't it work?

  1. Be aware that depending on the language set, Excel requires a certain format to specify a date.
