Equalizer for Android: How to optimize the sound output

Smartphones are now the most popular devices for listening to music. This makes it all the more important to be able to adjust the sound individually. We show which equalizer options you have in the Google system.

High or low? The Android equalizer allows for some tweaking.

Streaming flat rates like Spotify and Amazon Music have added to the status of mobile devices for music. The demand for equalizers is correspondingly high.

Android equalizer: good for the basics

An equalizer acts like a filter, with the purpose of editing audio frequencies and other properties. In Android 9, such a tool is already included out of the box:
  1. Open the "Properties".
  2. Select "Sounds and vibration".
  3. Scroll down and select "Sound quality and effects".
  4. Now you can see the available setting options to the sound, including the equalizer under "SoundAlive".
Depending on the device and Android versions, the options here may be slightly different. For example, not all devices have the two rotary controls for "Bass/Treble" and "Instrument/Vocals". Additionally, there are special settings like the "UHQ Upscaler" for a better sound resolution or "Concert Hall" with reverb effects. It is convenient that Android has such a tool on board, even if the options are rather classified as "Basic". If you want to go finer, there are quite a few equalizer apps with a much larger range of functions in the Google Play Store, such as the well-known Bass Booster.
