What does the chip in the ID card store?

If you are in possession of a newer ID card, then you will have noticed that there is a chip on it. This contains personal data about you. But what information about you is held there?

What data is available by default?

Data is stored by default on the chip on the ID card and, in addition, this data can also be transmitted via the online ID card function after personal approval.

• Your family name and first name are stored on the chip. If you have married or a name change, then this change is also noted on the chip.
• Your date of birth and the place of your birth are also stored on the chip.
• Address as well as zip code of your main residence are also stored on the chip. Due to this, you are also obliged to notify the relevant office within a period of two to four weeks in the event of a move or other change of address.
• Should you lead a stage name or be a member of an order, this is also noted on the chip. However, there is no obligation to provide this data. In addition, only order names of registered and recognized religious communities can be deposited.
• If you are allowed to hold a doctorate, this is also stored on the chip in the identity card, if you list it in the appropriate form.

In addition, a digital biometric photo, the serial number and two fingerprints are also stored on the chip. This information is specially protected and cannot be retrieved through the online ID card function.
