Undo app update - revert to old version
In general, app updates are supposed to provide more stability and reliability. However, it may happen that the update has the opposite effect and the app does not work properly afterwards. In such a case, it is advisable to downgrade to an older version of the app.
How do you restore an old version?
How you switch back to the old version of an app usually depends on the operating system of the smartphone or tablet.- On Android, go to the settings to do this. To do this, open the corresponding app.
- Now go on to "Manage apps". Here you will see a list of all installed apps. Find the app whose update you want to reset.
- Click on the corresponding line and then on "Uninstall update (update)". In the following, all updates of the app will be uninstalled again.
- Now you can search for the correct version on the developer's website and download it.
- With iTunes you undo an update also under iOS. If you still have an older version of the app in iTunes, you can install it directly and thus delete the update.
- If you want to have the older version back without a backup, you need another iPhone that still has the older version installed.
- Connect the older iPhone to your PC so that it connects to iTunes. However, remove the old app from iTunes first. Now click on "Device" in iTunes and transfer the app to iTunes.
