Windows Update Failed: How to Remedy

Windows updates often not only bring new features, but also close important security holes. If a Windows update fails once, you should still try to install the update. The problem can have many causes, but many errors are detected by a Windows utility.

Before installing the update, check if your computer has enough disk space. Also, you can turn off your antivirus protection before installation so that the update is not mistakenly flagged as a virus. However, for your safety, you should re-enable the protection immediately after the successful installation of the update. Outdated drivers and connected USB devices can also be responsible for update failure. Therefore, disconnect all USB devices that you do not need and check for driver updates. Additionally, make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet during the update process.

Install Microsoft utility

If you continue to experience Windows update problems, you can also download a program from Microsoft that will attempt to fix any errors that are preventing the update from installing successfully.
