Windows 10: Launch compatibility mode

Windows 10 is the last Windows to come out. The operating system will then only be updated, and no other Windows will appear. But often old programs and games do not work on the latest Microsoft operating system. For this case, Windows has developed a compatibility mode.

How to start compatibility mode in Windows 10?

In Windows 10, you can start compatibility mode just like in Windows 8.
  1. Right-click on the .exe file of the program you want to start in compatibility mode and select "Properties" from the menu.
  2. Now the properties window for this application will open. Go to the "Compatibility" tab.
  3. To start the program in compatibility mode, check "Start program in compatibility mode".
  4. Now you can still choose in which version of Windows you want to start the program. Windows 8, 7 and Vista are available.
  5. With a click on "OK", all the settings made are applied and you can start the program normally. However, it will now start in compatibility mode.
If the change does not give the desired result, you can try to run the program as an administrator. To do this, also right-click on the .exe file and select "Run as administrator". Possibly the program needs write permissions, which it does not get otherwise. Otherwise, your only option is to install an older version of Windows.
