If you have Ubuntu Linux or Linux Mint installed on your computer, you may get the error message "Failed to start LSB" from time to time. Since the problem occurs mainly on computers that still have an older Ubuntu version, it can be fixed by a system update or a new installation.
  1. Before you start to install a new Linux version, please be sure to perform a data backup.
  2. Then download the new Linux version and create an installation medium on a CD or USB stick.
  3. Then restart your computer and boot it from the previously created installation media.
  4. Thereupon the installation wizard will start, in which you please select a language, click "Install Ubuntu" and follow the further instructions.

Linux: The network manager as the cause of the error Failed to start LSB

If the cause of the error message is not an outdated Linux version, the network manager can be the source of the error. Therefore, first try to restart it by entering the command "systemctl restart NetworkManager" in the terminal. If this does not help, temporarily disable the network manager by entering the commands "systemctl stop NetworkManager" and "systemctl disable NetworkManager" before you enable it again with the commands "systemctl enable NetworkManager" and "systemctl start NetworkManager".
