Change your Gmail password: How it works

Google Mail has become one of the most popular email providers in Germany. If you have forgotten your password, you can change your Gmail password. To do this, you have several options.

With mail programs like Gmail, it is of great importance that you regularly set to a new password. This way, you make it harder for potential hackers and other criminals to steal your data.

How to change your Gmail password

Thankfully, changing your password on Gmail doesn't require much effort. Instead, you can proceed via a section set up specifically by Google.

1. First, sign in to your Google account. You can do that at this link.
2. And you can then determine a new password. In doing so, you should not use personal year numbers or names that would be accessible to outsiders.
3. If you want to change your password because you have forgotten the old password, click on "Forgot password".
4. You can then choose a method to recover your password. For this, you can, for example, enter an old password or have a code sent to your cell phone or email address.

Alternatively, change the Gmail password directly through Google

If you are already logged into Gmail, you can also change your password in another way.

1. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner in Gmail and select "Show all settings".
2. Now open the settings of your account. Here you now click on the option "Accounts and Import".
3. The first entry on page is "Change password". Now just click on the link, and you can continue to follow the instructions above to choose a new password for your Gmail account.
