Update Internet Explorer: What to watch out for

When you want to update Internet Explorer, you run into a problem. This is because the browser is no longer provided with updates by the developer Microsoft. Because of the security risk, you should use a new browser.

For a long time, Internet Explorer was Microsoft's flagship browser. As a pre-installed browser on Windows, there was no way around the software for initial access to the Internet. But with Windows 10, the new browser from the developer makes its entrance: Microsoft Edge.

No updates possible for Internet Explorer

Since January 12, 2016, there are no more updates for Internet Explorer. This means for users that the browser is no longer safe to browse. If you continue to use IE, you and your data are not protected against newer threats such as malware. We therefore strongly recommend switching to a new browser. Run a Windows update. At the latest after that, you should also find Microsoft Edge on your computer. Search for it best like this, if the software has not yet caught your eye:
  1. Click on the Start button at the bottom left or on the Windows icon.
  2. On the right you will now find a search box. Simply enter "Edge" here.
  3. In the search results, you will now directly see the browser and can start it.
If you are not convinced by Edge, you can also set up other popular browsers such as Google Chrome, Firefox or Opera. These three and many more options are available for free and are compatible with both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
