Windows: Internet Explorer - what you should know

Even though Internet Explorer is no longer the default browser in Windows 10, it is still available for use. The browser lets you surf the web in an uncomplicated way. However, if you no longer need it, it is also possible to deactivate it.

How to use Internet Explorer on Windows

If you have a computer with Windows as operating system, it is not necessary to install Internet Explorer. Instead, Internet Explorer is pre-installed on all computers running Windows 10 and the older versions Windows 8 and Windows 7.
  1. To open Windows Explorer on Windows 10, type Internet Explorer in the taskbar search box and click the corresponding result in the list.
  2. If you want to open Internet Explorer more quickly in the future, simply pin it to the taskbar by right-clicking on the Explorer icon and selecting "Pin to taskbar" from the context menu.
  3. In addition, it is also possible to create a desktop shortcut. To do this, navigate to "Windows Accessories" > "Internet Explorer" in the Start menu, right-click and create a shortcut under "More" > "Open File Location".

Windows: Disable Internet Explorer

If you use the new, faster Microsoft Edge browser instead of Internet Explorer, you can simply disable Internet Explorer. To do this, first open the Control Panel and navigate to "Programs" > "Uninstall programs" in it. There, find the option "Activate or deactivate Windows features" and remove the checkmark next to "Internet Explorer". Confirm the displayed warning with "Yes" and click "OK" before restarting the PC.
