GIMP is a free image editing program that allows you to optimize and edit your images in different ways. Creating a photo montage from two images is also possible with GIMP. We will explain how to create your own photo montage in this article.
Photo montage: how to crop an image in GIMP
To create a photo montage using the GIMP image editor, it is first necessary to crop the image that is to be inserted into another image. To do this, open the corresponding image file in GIMP, navigate to "View" > "Magnification (100%)" and select "2:1 (200%)". Then draw a border around the part of the image to be cropped by selecting the Lasso tool from the toolbox and then reset the magnification to "1:1".GIMP: How to merge two images into a photo montage
Once you have cropped an object from one image, next please open the other image into which you want to insert the cropped part of the image. Make sure that there is no size difference between the images and adjust them if necessary under "Image" > "Scale Image".- To insert the cropped image into the second image now, click on the "Move Tool" in the toolbox.
- Then right-click on the cropped image to open the context menu and select "Edit".
- Also right-click in the second image and paste the copied image part by selecting "Edit" again.
- You can now still move the pasted image until it is at the desired position and finally save your photo montage.
