Disable Cortana on Windows 10 Home

Cortana is the voice assistant on Windows 10. Using the voice-controlled search function, you can have a question answered quickly and easily or search for specific content. However, if you don't want Cortana to listen to every word or perform actions, you can disable the assistant.

Disable Cortana on Windows 10 Home

Since a few updates, it is no longer possible to disable Cortana in the system without further ado. To still take the air out of the assistant's tires, you need to do a little trickery.

1. Under Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro, there are different procedures to disable Cortana. For this reason, the method for Windows 10 Pro will not work in your system either.
2. First, start "Run" by using the key combination [Windows] + [R] and enter [regedit] in the text box. Then confirm with [Enter].
3. Now navigate to the path [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search].
4. Make a right-click on "Windows Search" and then select "New" and "Dword value (32 bit)".
5. Now name the entry "AllowCortana" and pass it a value of 0.

Cortana unter Windows 10 Pro deaktivieren

1. Unter Windows 10 Pro müssen Sie nach „gpedit.msc“ suchen und zum Punkt „Computerkonfiguration“ wechseln.
2. Weiterhin klicken Sie auf „Administrative Vorgaben“ und „Windows-Komponenten“.
3. Wählen Sie „Suche“ und klicken Sie den Eintrag „AllowCortana“ an.
4. Stellen Sie ihn auf „Deaktiviert“ um und klicken Sie auf „Übernehmen“.
