LaTex: Insert PDF - with these packages it works

With the text typesetting system you have the possibility to insert a PDF file into your document. However, this only works if you include one of two additional packages in LaTex beforehand. How the integration works and which steps are necessary afterwards to insert a PDF, we explain here.

Insert PDF: This is what LaTex is used for

LaTex is a text typesetting system used mainly for creating scientific texts and books. The use of LaTex is, unlike other text programs such as Word, free of charge and an installation is possible on various operating systems such as Linux, Unix, Mac OS and Windows. In addition to the functions already included, the functionality of LaTex can be extended by including additional packages. Thus, LaTex offers you its own packages to generate graphics, create bibliographies and include PDF files.

How to insert a PDF file into LaTex

If you want to insert an existing PDF file into LaTex, this is possible with the help of two packages. While "Pdfpages" was developed specifically for inserting PDF files, you can also insert images and graphics with the second package "Graphicx".
  1. To use "Pdfpages", first include the package in LaTex with the command "\usepackage{pdfpages}".
  2. To subsequently include a PDF file using the package, please use the command "\includepdf[pages=1] {Test}", replacing "Test" with the name of the file. By entering a number after "pages" you can also specify which pages will be inserted.
  3. Also when using the Graphicx package, it is first necessary to include it with "\usepackage{graphicx}" before inserting the PDF file with the command "\includegraphics[page=1] {Test}" in LaTex.
