Avguard.exe - important information at a glance

In Task Manager you will find an overview of all running processes on your computer. However, for many of the listed processes, it is not obvious at first glance to which program they belong. If the process "avguard.exe" appears in the list, it probably originates from a program of the company Avira.

What you need to know about avguard.exe

If you find the "avguard.exe" process in the process list of your task manager, it is the AV-Guard from the anti-virus software Avira Antivirus.
  • The process originates from the real-time protection of Avira Antivirus. It controls AV-Guard, which is responsible for scanning files and processes in the background. This allows the software to detect potential malware directly and raise the alarm.
  • Normally, it is a benign process that you should not terminate. If you close the process, your virus protection can no longer work properly and your system becomes vulnerable.
If you use antivirus from Avira on your system, but are still not sure whether the process is a virus, you can track the file path via the task manager.

Virus or not?

If you do not have antivirus from Avira installed, the process is probably a virus. If you are not sure, you can use a virus scanner or malware detection program to check your PC. With the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware tool, you can reliably put your system through its paces and safely remove any malware.
