Certificate of knowledge drone - how to get it
The certificate of knowledge, colloquially known as a drone license, was introduced in 2017 and is considered proof of ability to fly a drone. However, a new EU drone regulation will come into force from 2021. It depends on which classification your drone belongs to.
Proof of knowledge drone: do you need a driver's license?
The new drone regulation will apply from the beginning of 2021, from which time private individuals will also need a suitable proof of competence to fly a drone. Among other regulations, it is therefore necessary to present a certificate of competence class A/A3 for drones classified C1/C3 or 500 grams and above. This is associated with an online examination comprising 40 questions. For higher classifications, on the other hand, a more extensive certification is necessary, for which you sometimes even have to take a practical exam. Under certain conditions, however, you still do not need a driver's license.Do you need a "small" drone license class A1/A3, you can perform this online.- The license consists of a total of 40 questions.
- The test covers the topics of flight safety, aviation law, human performance, operating procedures, general knowledge, privacy and data protection and aviation security.
- You need a total of 75 percent to pass the license. Before that, however, you must take a test exam before you are allowed to take the actual test.
- For a more advanced class A2 driver's license, much more in-depth knowledge in these areas is required and usually a practical test is also necessary.
