Clean up memory: Android - how to make room

If the memory of your Android smartphone or tablet is full, no more content can be saved or installed on the device. Then there are several ways you can free up storage space again. Current devices also often offer the option to expand the integrated memory.

How to clean up your Android device's memory

The integrated memory of your Android smartphone or tablet is often quickly filled to the brim. However, there are a few tricks that can help you clean up the memory.
  1. Unused apps often block a not inconsiderable amount of the integrated memory space. Therefore, uninstall all applications that you do not use. Pre-installed apps that can not be uninstalled, you can alternatively deactivate.
  2. Move photos, videos and other content to your computer or another storage medium to back them up and free up the storage space on the Android device again. Anything you do not want to keep can be deleted directly.
  3. Empty the download folder. There, data often accumulates that are no longer used at all.
  4. Save media content, such as pictures or videos, to one of the many cloud storage options. This way, you not only save storage space on your device, but can also conveniently synchronize the data between multiple devices.

Expand storage space - these are the options you have

If the internal storage space still remains scarce, many Android smartphones and tablets offer the option to expand it via a memory card. What type of memory card you need depends on the device, as does the supported memory size.
