Photoshop: Mirror image - how to do it?

Photoshop offers lots of features and is correspondingly complex to use, so sometimes even the simplest features are hard to find. If you want to flip an image, the most important thing is to find the right menu for it.

How it works: flip image with Photoshop

To flip an image, an element or a layer, only a few steps are necessary. Depending on the version of Photoshop, you can find the right function in the "Rotate" or "Transform" menu.

To flip the image, follow these steps:

  1. Click "Image" at the top.
  2. Then select "Image Rotation"
  3. You have several options here to rotate an image and flip it.
  4. Choose "Flip Horizontal", "Flip Layer Horizontally" or "Flip Selection Horizontally".
  5. In order to mirror an image vertically, i.e. to turn it upside down, on the other hand, choose "180°", "Layer 180°" or "Selection 180°".
  6. Furthermore, decide here whether you want to mirror the workspace or the layer you are currently in.

Mirror individual elements and layers

Even individual elements can be mirrored quite easily with Photoshop. However, it is important that you select the correct element with the editor. For example, using the Editor workspace, select a specific layer using the Layers panel, select an object, or make a free selection. Then right-click the selected element or the corresponding layer in the panel. In the context menu, then select "Flip Horizontal".
