Surface Pro 6: IP address - how to find it out

If your Surface Pro 6 is connected to a WLAN or Ethernet network, it has an IP address for identification. How you find out the IP address assigned on the Surface depends on the network card.

IP address: How to find it out on Surface Pro 6

To find out the IP address on your Surface Pro 6, there are two ways depending on the type of connection. If you use a WLAN connection to browse the Internet, you can find out your IP by first clicking on the "WLAN icon" in the taskbar of the Surface Pro 6 to view the list of all available WLAN networks.
  1. From this, select the network to which your Surface computer is connected and click on "Properties".
  2. A new window will then open in which you can read the IP address under "Properties" next to the "IPv4" entry.
  3. If you are using an Ethernet connection instead, click on the corresponding icon in the taskbar, select your network connection under "Ethernet" and look for the IP number under "Properties".

Surface Pro 6: How to make changes to the IP address

By default, the IP address is assigned automatically on the Surface Pro 6, as on all computers with Windows 10. To change this and make the IP settings manually, please navigate to "Start" > "Settings" > "Network and Internet" on the device and select "WLAN" or "Ethernet", respectively. Open the settings there and click "Edit" next to "IP Assignment" to switch from the "Automatic" option to "Manual".
