What is the Google Home app? What to expect

The Google Home app not only lets you set up Google's smart speaker. You can also manage and control Chromecast and other smart home devices through the app. You can get it for free from the App Store on your Android or iOS device.

What the Google Home app can do

You will need the Google Home app primarily if you have purchased a Google Home speaker and want to set it up. But the app is useful for many other devices and functions.

1. With the Google Home app, you can also set up and manage Google Nest and Chromecast devices in addition to the speaker.
2. This is particularly useful if you also want to control lights, cameras and many other devices only through a single app.
3. Using the app, you can create device groups, which you can then control simultaneously via an action. For this, you also have general controls to choose from. To activate an element, tap on the corresponding button. These include, for example, "Lights off", "Lights on", "Media", "Call home" and so on.
