To start a trainer battle in Pokémon GO, there are various options. However, the easiest one is when the challenger is facing you directly.

1. Open the battle screen within the app. Now you need to tap on the "Challenge Trainer" button. Then your opponent scans the QR code on your screen so that the fight can begin.
2. If you have a friend who shares the status "Hyper Friends" with you, you can also start a fight without standing directly next to each other. To do this, tap on the entry of the person in the friends list and further on "Send gift", then "Swap" and finally "Fight".
3. Fights can also be contested against computer opponents. You can select the battles via "Near" in the battle screen.
