Finding out the hex code of a color: Instructions

Every color imaginable has a unique hex code that can be figured out. You need the code, for example, if you want to program the background or font color in HTML.

How to find out the hex code of a specific color

If you need the hex code of a very specific color in order to use it in HTML, for example, there are several ways to find it out. You need the red, green and blue values of the color. The easiest way to find these out is to use an image editing program such as Paint.

• Open an image with the color of which you want to find out the hex code in Paint and click on the color with the eyedropper.
• Then open the color palette, you will see the values for red, green and blue on the right.
• These are the decimal values. Online you can find various converters to calculate the hex code from them. Just put the code together in the order red, green, blue.

Alternatively to the manual method, there are also websites where you can find out the hex code of a color faster. For example, on ImageColorPicker you simply upload an image and then click on the corresponding color with the eyedropper on the image preview.
