Whoever writes about physical topics in Word or other programs will sooner or later need the degree sign. This symbol, represented as a superscript circle, is primarily used to indicate temperature or angles. We'll show you how to generate the sign.

How to create the degree symbol with a keyboard shortcut

Using a keyboard shortcut, you can enter the degree symbol quickly and easily:

1. The degree symbol can be found on your keyboard at the top left, just below the [Esc] key. To create it, hold down [Shift] while pressing the [°] key. The symbol will then appear at the position of the cursor.
2. If your keyboard has a numeric keypad, you can also enter the special symbol using the following key combination: [Alt] + the number sequence [0] [1] [7] [6].

Generating the degree symbol without a key combination

In Word you will find the item "Symbol" under the menu item "Insert" on the upper right side. Within this function, click on "More symbols". Look for the degree symbol there and confirm it by clicking on "Insert". Another option is to find the degree symbol via Google search and copy it. After that you can paste it anywhere you want, whether in Word or in the email program.
