Google Earth: Show the degree grid - how it works

Google Earth wants to show the world as detailed as possible and therefore offers numerous tools to help. Our guide explains how you can show the degree network via overlay.

A grid for the world: The degree grid shows all longitudes and latitudes in Google Earth.

By grid lines the degree grid results, which spans the whole world and makes longitudes and latitudes visible. In Google Earth, you can easily activate this view.

Google Earth: How to activate the degree network

By default, the degree network, also called grid, is not visible in Google Earth. This can be changed as follows, for example in the browser:
  1. Open earth.google.com and click on the icon with the three dashes in the upper left corner.
  2. Then select "Map style".
  3. Use the slider at "Enable degree grid".
The world is then spanned by a grid. This scales depending on the zoom level, so you always see the grid lines at a usable scale. The degree grid is useful for various purposes, such as visually comparing the latitude of two locations.
