Microsoft Excel: Hide grid lines

Grid lines are an important visual tool in Excel. The lines clearly show the dimensions of cells, rows, and columns, and help you map multiple cells. If the grid lines bother you, then you can easily hide them in a few steps if needed.

With the help of gridlines in Excel, you can see at a glance which cells belong to the same row or column. Without gridlines, this becomes difficult, especially in larger documents; in return, the document looks all the tidier. If you do not need the grid lines, you can deactivate them in Excel for the entire page. Only a few steps are necessary for this.
  1. Open the Excel document and switch to the "Page Layout" tab.
  2. There you will see the "Gridlines" entry in the "Sheet Options" area. By default, the checkmark is set to "Show".
  3. By removing the checkmark, all gridlines will be hidden.
Your Excel document now appears in a new guise, as the gridlines are an essential visual element. Note that the gridlines have nothing to do with the border that you can manually draw around certain cells and cell ranges. To remove them, select the cells that are outlined. Then go to the "Font" area. Click on the small arrow to the right of the "Border Lines" button. Select "No border." In this menu you can also customize the thickness of the border.
