Photoshop: Draw straight lines

Draw straight lines in Photoshop in just a few steps. Especially as a novice, however, the many different tools of the program are quickly overwhelming. Our tip shows you how to do it.

To draw a straight line, simultaneously hold down the "Shift" key and the left mouse button with the line, pen or brush tool from the toolbar. This is how you draw horizontal and vertical lines, or lines at a 45-degree angle.

Drawing Straight Lines in Photoshop

To draw a straight line in Photoshop, set two anchor points with the Draw Pen tool from the toolbar. These two points will automatically be connected by a line. Alternatively, sketch a line with the Line Drawer tool from the toolbar.
  1. Select the Line Drawer tool from the toolbar.
  2. Activate the "Path" icon in the options bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter the line thickness in the "Thickness" input field in the options bar.
  4. Draw a line while holding down the left mouse button. If you hold down the "Shift" key while drawing with the mouse, you create a vertical line or a horizontal line or a line at an angle of 45 degrees.
  5. Use the Color button in the options bar to set a line color. You can also draw arrows with the Line Drawer tool. To do this, click the Arrowheads icon in the Options bar. In the opened window, set different arrowheads at the end of the line or at the beginning of the line. In addition, you can choose whether your line should be dashed, dotted or solid.
