What operating system does Sony have?

Sony is an electronics company from Japan that manufactures various technical devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions and game consoles. If you are interested in buying a mobile device from Sony, we explain here which operating system is installed on Sony smartphones.

This operating system is used by Sony

For several years, Sony was a member of the Symbian Foundation, which was founded by Nokia in 1998. Accordingly, Sony also used Symbian as the operating system for all of its mobile devices.
  1. In the meantime, however, Sony has abandoned the use of Symbian and uses Android instead.
  2. This is mainly due to the fact that Android is one of the most popular operating systems for mobile devices and devices that use Android are sold faster than devices with Symbian.
  3. The last Sony smartphones to use Symbian as an operating system were the Sony Ericsson P800 and the P900 and P910 models.

These Sony devices use Android as an operating system

The first smartphone from Sony to use Android as an operating system was the Sony Xperia X 10, released in 2009. Since then, the Japanese company has launched a number of other mobile devices that use Android. These include, in addition to all models in the Sony Xperia X 10 lineup, the popular Sony Xperia 5 and the Sony Xperia Z. Since Sony released its first tablet, the Sony Xperia S, in 2012, the company has developed four other tablet models that also use Android as their operating system.
