What operating system do I have? How to find out
The most popular operating systems include Windows, Linux and macOS. Here, each software has different versions, and of Linux there are other distributions with other features and applications. Do not know which operating system is running on your PC, you can find out in a few steps.
This operating system you have
Microsoft is already at Windows 10 with its operating system. For Linux, there are many different distributions, such as Ubuntu. MacOS also receives an update to a newer version at regular intervals. If you do not know which of these operating systems is currently on your computer, you can easily find out.- If you have a Windows system, you will see a colorful flag or the Windows icon at the bottom left of the desktop.
- If you have a Windows, start the "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "System". Here is now displayed at the top, which Windows version you have.
- With one of the many Linux distributions, it is difficult to see exactly which one you have - unless you know the individual interfaces.
- Open a terminal via the key combination "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "T" and enter the command "cat /etc/issue". Then you will see the Linux version.
- If your device is running macOS, you will see this in the special taskbar, which is located at the bottom center. Here, the individual applications are displayed as icons.
- On a Mac, click on the apple in the top left corner and then select "About this Mac" to get the exact information.
