Windows: How to find out your operating system version
In many cases it is relevant to know which version of the operating system you have installed. This can be important for the installation of various applications. To find out the version, you just need to switch to your system's information, which can be done with just a few clicks.
How to find out the operating system version
Depending on which generation of Windows you are using, the solution path differs. But don't worry, in other Windows versions the procedure works almost identically and you will find the information in the same place.- If you have a PC with Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, open the Run dialog by pressing [Windows] key + "R" and enter "winver" in the command.
- If you want to know more information about your Windows version, open the Start menu and click on the "gear icon" to open the settings.
- Navigate in the settings to "System" > "Info"
- Now you can see all the relevant information about your operating system and the version you are using. This is either a 32- or a 64-bit version.
How to read the information correctly
- At the top under the heading is the current generation of your Windows system as well as its version and which service packages have been installed.
- Further down you get a breakdown of the performance of your installed hardware.
