You can find the version number in the following way:

1. Open the "Settings". This can be done either via the menu icon or by entering the address edge://settings/.
2. Select the item "Info about Microsoft Edge" in the left navigation bar at the very bottom.

This already brings you to your destination: you can see the current version number in the typical format. This allows you to find out, for example, whether there is now a newer version for which you can start a manual update.
