PowerPoint: Embed fonts - here's how to do it

In Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, you have the option to embed fonts in your documents. This ensures that there are no layout, font, or design issues when you pass the file to someone else for editing.

Embedding fonts in documents

In order to embed a font in a PowerPoint document at all, it must be installed on your computer. Only then do you have the option of integrating the font into a document. This is how you embed a font in PowerPoint:
  1. Call up PowerPoint's "Options" via the "File" tab.
  2. Select the "Memory" item in the navigation on the left.
  3. There you will find the item "Keep accuracy when sharing this presentation". Here, select the presentation in which you want to embed the font from the drop-down menu.
  4. Then check the box "Embed fonts in file". If you are sharing the file for editing, it is also advisable to check the "Embed all characters" option.
  5. Finally click "OK".

This is what you need to keep in mind when embedding fonts

When you embed a font in a document, the file size increases at the same time. The best font to use is either OpenType (.OpenType) or TrueType (.TTF). OpenType fonts are the most space efficient. Embedding PostScript fonts (.PFB) can cause problems afterwards when opening the document and should therefore be avoided.
