Sky Receiver: exclamation mark lights

The newer receivers from Sky communicate with you via the color scheme that you can see on the display. This includes an exclamation mark. In most cases, you can easily solve the problem.

This is what it means when an exclamation mark lights up on your Sky Receiver

There is no one solution when the exclamation mark lights up on your receiver. This is because Sky wants to alert you to a process that can have various causes.
  1. Generally, the exclamation mark on your Sky Receiver does not mean that there is an error message. Indeed, it may also be that a process is running, which you should not interrupt.
  2. It is very likely that your receiver is simply restarting. In this case, the exclamation mark lights up for about 10 minutes and then disappears.
  3. You will also see the shining exclamation mark during an update. Normally, this process takes an hour.
  4. If the exclamation mark lights up permanently, then your receiver has probably hung up. Disconnect the device for about five minutes from the power supply. Subsequently, the receiver reboots.
  5. Alternatively, the reception signal may also be disturbed, for example, in severe weather or snowfall. Often only devices with satellite reception are affected by such disturbances. With cable reception, construction work can be the cause.
It is also possible that there is a fault with Sky itself. Then you should check whether there is a fault or alternatively contact customer service. If there is no error at Sky itself, the exclamation mark may indicate a hard drive defect or similar damage. In this case, you need a replacement device.
