Using Fritz!Box USB remote connection properly

In order to establish an Internet connection with your devices in your home, it is necessary to use a suitable router. Many Internet service providers usually provide you with a Fritz!Box as a rental device. With the USB remote connection of the box, you have the option of using a USB storage device that is not directly connected to your PC.

How to use the Fritz!Box USB remote port

The USB remote port is a program that allows you to control a USB memory connected to the Fritz!Box from your computer. You can also set up the USB storage as a "central home network storage location" to allow multiple computers to access it. Before you can use the function, note that you need at least Windows 7. In addition, simultaneous access to the storage from multiple computers is not possible. If the USB remote connection is active, the use of the Fritz!Box media server is not possible.
  1. Connect the USB storage to your Fritz!Box.
  2. Go to the Fritz!Box user interface via your browser and log in.
  3. Click on "Home Network" > "USB Devices" > "USB Remote Connection". If the latter is not displayed, select the "Advanced View" before.
  4. Here you activate the item "USB remote connection active".
  5. Go to the "Program for USB connection" > "Download". Once the file is downloaded, install it.
  6. This process must be done individually for each Windows user.
  7. Now you can follow the instructions in the program.
