WordPress without Gutenberg: So it is still possible

The switch to the Gutenberg editor is one of the biggest changes in WordPress for many years. Many users still reject the new editor and for this case we explain how you can use WordPress without Gutenberg.

We explained the features of the Gutenberg editor last year in this guide. But unfortunately, depending on the theme and plug-in, problems with the editor can still occur, even if this should be increasingly rare.

How to use WordPress without Gutenberg

Since Gutenberg is now standard and has replaced the classic editor, the way is through plug-ins:

• The first choice is the Classic Editor. It hides all Gutenberg functionalities and since it is official from WordPress, it is still guaranteed to be supported for a long time (at least until 2022).
• The alternative is Disable Gutenberg. Again, all Gutenberg features are disabled, instead of which the old familiar editor appears again. The advantage is that the plug-in allows precise control: so you can set which content continues to run with Gutenberg and which does not.

The latter plug-in is handy if you want to use Gutenberg in principle, but there are problems in some places.
