No Man's Sky: Find and use monolith - all info

Created by alien hands: monoliths are special structures that you can find on the planets in No Man's Sky. We explain how to succeed in the search and what monoliths are actually good for.

Monoliths offer various advantages, including navigation to a portal.

The further you progress in No Man's Sky, the more important portals become. To find them, monoliths are useful.

No Man's Sky: Finding monolith possible in various ways

With monoliths you can learn the location of a portal. Portals, in turn, are useful for traveling to faraway places. Also, you can get rewards like blueprints at monoliths. To find a monolith, there are several ways:
  • The best way is to use the large exo-vehicle called Colossus: install the signal booster and the available upgrades for maximum power.
  • Then choose to search for alien structures. If there is a monolith on the planet, you will learn the location.
  • Alternatively, you can ask for directions by talking to NPCs. Sometimes this will give you a monolith location; however, this is the case in far less than 50 percent.
Once you arrive at the monolith, you will be asked a riddle. If you give the correct answer, you will receive a reward, such as new words, a blueprint, or relics. To learn the location of a portal at the monolith, you will need a relic of the people residing in the system. In Vy'keen systems this is the Vy'keen dagger, in Korvax systems the Korvax case, in Gek systems the Gek relic. You trade the object and receive the location of a portal in return.
