Android: WLAN can no longer be activated - this is the reason

It happens now and then that you can no longer activate the WLAN connection on your Android smartphone or tablet. Triggers for this problem can be various causes. Find out here what tricks you can use to get your Android device's wireless connection working again.

How to proceed if the WLAN on Android can no longer be activated

Often, a simple restart of the device is enough to fix most errors and problems. However, if you can not activate the connection even after a restart, turn the connection on and off again.
  1. Call the settings from your Android smartphone or tablet.
  2. Tap in the overview on "WLAN".
  3. Disable the slider at the option "Use WLAN".
  4. Wait a few seconds and turn the function back on.
  5. Then try whether the connection works again.
If the problems still remain, you can try to reset the smartphone or tablet back to factory settings. This can help to eliminate faulty or defective settings. Create a backup beforehand so that no data is lost.

External sources of error

If you cannot connect to the WLAN even after the reset, the problem can also originate from the router or repeater. Try to dial in with other devices over the same connection to check if the problems exist there as well. If this is the case, restart both the router and the repeaters connected to the network.
