Alexa: reboot and reset the system

If your smart home system Alexa can no longer be operated properly, then it is a good idea to reboot the system and reset it. You don't need any other tools for this, as these commands can be issued directly on the system itself.

This is how you proceed for a restart

For various problems, it can help if you restart Alexa or restore the factory settings.
  • Since the device does not have a button for restarting, you need to disconnect Alexa from the power network. After you do that, wait at least 10 minutes.
  • After Alexa gets access to the power network again, you need to connect Alexa to the WLAN. Now you should be able to use the device as usual.
  • If the reboot did not fix your problem, reset Alexa to factory settings.
  • You will need a thin object, such as a paper clip, to press the Amazon Echo's reset button.
  • Hold the button down until the light ring has changed from orange to blue and subsequently turned off and on.
  • Once Alexa's light ring turns orange a second time, you can reconfigure Alexa.

Can there be another problem?

Of course, there are other problems that you can not fix so easily. However, before you initiate the reset, you should also check whether there might not be a WLAN connection error. This can also cause Alexa to not execute your commands properly or not at all.
