Android: Deleting pre-installed apps - what you need to know

As in iOS, you have a whole range of pre-installed apps on Android devices, which often take up a lot of memory. However, if you want to delete the apps from your smartphone or tablet, this does not work out so easily. However, you do have the option of deactivating the apps and associated updates.

How to disable pre-installed apps on your Android device

Apps pre-installed on your smartphone or tablet are referred to as bloatware. This is often unnecessary software that simply takes up storage space. If you want to get rid of the ballast, this often turns out to be difficult, since the preinstalled apps cannot be uninstalled easily. However, you do have the option of deactivating the apps so that at least no new updates are loaded that take up memory.
  1. Open the settings of your Android device and call up the "Applications" category.
  2. There you will find an overview of all apps installed on the device under "Installed apps".
  3. In the list, tap the app you want to deactivate and select the option "Uninstall updates" and then "Deactivate".

Remove pre-installed apps completely

If you want to completely remove the pre-installed apps from your device, you can not avoid rooting your phone. However, in doing so, you will lose any warranty claim and risk that your smartphone or tablet will no longer function properly.
