How to change username in Windows 10
Your username in Windows 10 can be either the name of your Microsoft account or the name of a local account. The way you can change the username also depends on this difference. However, it is possible in both cases.
You can change your username in Windows 10 for any account type.
Windows 10: Change username in local account
If you use a local account, you can change the username directly in Windows 10.- Open the Control Panel.
- Click there on "User Accounts".
- Click "Change My Account Name".
- Thereupon you can enter a new user name.
- Alternatively, you can also change your name via the properties of the account. Press the "Windows key" + "R" keys to open the Run dialog.
- Enter "Control userpasswords2" and press the "Enter" key.
- Click on the user and select "Properties". Now you can also enter a new username and confirm it by pressing "Ok".
Windows 10: Change username in Microsoft account
If you are using your Microsoft account, you cannot change the username directly in Windows 10. Instead, follow these steps:- Log in to your account on Microsoft's account page.
- Click "Edit Name" on the left side of your account information.
- Enter a new name.
- Click "Save".
