Instagram: Change username - here's how

Once you create an account on Instagram, you also set a username that will be displayed to other users and your followers. If you want to change your username later, we'll show you here how to do it in the app and via the browser.

How to change username in the Instagram app

If you don't like your username on Instagram anymore, it's easy to change it. The procedure for setting a new username depends on whether you use Instagram as an app or in the browser.

1. If you have Instagram installed as an app on your Android smartphone or iPhone, please open it first and log in to your Instagram account.
2. Tap on your profile icon in the app afterwards and select the option "Edit profile".
3. Thereupon, a new window opens in which you must tap "Delete" or "Edit" next to your username before entering a new username.
4. Finally, save your new username by tapping on the blue checkmark to apply the change.

Alternatively, changing the username is also possible via the Instagram website. To do this, access it via the browser and log in to your account. Then navigate to "Profile" > "Edit Profile" and type the new username in the corresponding field. As soon as you click on the "Submit" button, the new name will be saved and displayed in your profile.
