Amazon Echo: change activation word

The Amazon Echo's voice assistant responds to the name Alexa. Whenever you want to use a skill or function, you have to address the Echo with the default activation word "Alexa". However, via the Alexa app, you have the option to set alternative call names.

Change Amazon Echo activation word

Using the Alexa app, you make the settings for your Amazon Echo. The app is available for iOS and Android and can be easily used on smartphones as well as tablets.Follow these steps to customize the call name of your Amazon Echo:

1. Open the Amazon Alexa app and open the menu using the icon in the top left corner.
2. In the menu, tap the "Settings" item.
3. There, select the Amazon Echo device for which you want to change the call name.
4. Now navigate to the "Activation Word" item in the menu and select it.
5. In the submenu, tap "Alexa Device Activation Word". A selection of different call names opens.
6. Select the appropriate name and finally tap "Save".

From now on, the Amazon Echo listens to the new name you have specified.
