Amazon Echo malfunction: what to do when Alexa doesn't respond?

Alexa is a helpful gadget and enriches your everyday life at various moments. That's why it's even more annoying when you find that the Echo device is malfunctioning. We'll show you what solutions you can take to fix the problem.

What you can do to fix a glitch

Even if your Echo device stops responding to your voice commands or seems completely useless, you don't have to despair. You can solve the problem yourself. But for that, you need to know how to interpret the light rings at the top of your Echo device. Because that's how Alexa communicates with you.
  1. Turquoise and blue together: During the boot process and the pronouncement of the activation word, you can see this color scheme.
  2. Red: Alexa is muted and can therefore not respond to your commands.
  3. Orange: The Echo device can currently not connect to your Wi-Fi network or it is currently establishing a connection.
  4. Violet: The WLAN setup failed and Alexa has no connection.
  5. White: So you can read the level of the volume when you make a change.
Also note the LED lights:
  1. Blue glow: Alexa is ready to accept a command.
  2. Red flash: Alexa could not process or understand your request.
  3. Blue flash: The Echo device is in paring mode.

The problem doesn't have to be you

Most problems occur when your Echo device cannot connect to the Internet. However, it may also be that internal interference is causing the device not to work. In this case, you'll have to wait for Amazon to fix the problem.
