How to choose a Linux distribution

If you want to switch to Linux from another operating system, it is usually not so easy. There are numerous distributions of Linux with different functionalities. Which version is right for you depends on various factors. The most popular distribution is Ubuntu, but there are many others.
  1. If you do not have any experience with Linux, Linux Mint is a good choice. This distribution has a user interface that is more Windows-oriented and is therefore particularly suitable for newcomers. In addition, many applications are already preinstalled, so you do not have to set up the system large.
  2. Also suitable for beginners are Elementary OS and Zorin OS. With the former, you get a macOS-like user interface.
  3. If you are already an avid Linux user, Manjaro can be useful for you, as many features are included that you can use as an advanced user.
  4. If you are an IT administrator, you should use Debian, as this distribution offers a stable and reliable server system and also includes many software packages already.
  5. Other distributions such as Arch Linux consist only of a command line.
  6. If you prefer a version with many security tools that are needed especially for IT security, then Kali Linux is recommended.
