iPad Alignment Lock: What's behind the term

The display on the iPad is set to rotate automatically when you tilt the iPad. If you don't want this to happen, you can activate the orientation lock. This lock prevents automatic rotation.

Using Alignment Lock on iPad

Alignment lock prevents your iPad's screen from rotating when you tilt the device. Once you activate the orientation lock, the screen will only be oriented horizontally. You can turn the lock on and off at any time from the Control Center, or you can assign a dedicated button to the feature.

How to enable the alignment lock

The alignment lock on your iPad can be enabled and disabled in just a few steps:
  1. Swipe down from the top right corner to open the Control Center. On older iPads, swipe up from the home screen.
  2. You will see a small lock with a round arrow.
  3. Tap the icon.
  4. When the lock is red, the alignment lock has been activated.
  5. Tap the very top of the screen or press the Home button to exit the Control Center.
On the iPad, you also have the option to use the button on the side to turn the alignment lock on and off. Dazu müssen Sie zunächst einstellen, dass der Schalter diese Funktion haben soll.
  1. Öffnen Sie die Einstellungen.
  2. Gehen Sie zu „Allgemein“.
  3. Tippen Sie auf „Seitenschalter“.
  4. Wählen Sie „Ausrichtungssperre“.
