No Man's Sky: Update overview - so much has happened
Since the release of No Man's Sky in 2016, the game has been greatly developed - and improved. The latest update called "Next Generation" provided fine-tuning once again, and that's reason enough to design an overview of all the updates so far.
No Man's Sky: Several major updates since release
Gamers and the trade press agree that No Man's Sky is now almost the game it should have been from the start. In this case, praise and criticism are two sides of the same coin. The development line of No Man's Sky is marked by seven major updates:- March 2017: With the "Pathfinder" update, different ship classes were added to the game, the permadeath mode was also introduced, base building was expanded and planets could be explored via exocraft vehicle. In addition, the graphics were improved.
- August 2017: With "Atlas Rises", a story came into the game for the first time. Planets became more varied, the trading system was expanded and the planets got more variety.
- July 2018: The "NEXT" update introduced the long-awaited multiplayer mode for up to four players. In addition, freighter columns were introduced, there was buried treasure to discover and production could be done in refineries.
- October 2018: The big "Abyss" update took care of underwater play, including base building below sea level, flora and fauna, and special vehicles.
- October 2018: "Visions" followed shortly after and brought new biomes with it.
- August 2019: "Beyond" brought VR support and allows for a shared universe entirely in the style of an MMO.
- 2020: Last year, numerous new updates were released. Thus, biological ships, controllable mechs, cross-platform multiplayer and many other innovations were introduced. In addition, numerous bugs were fixed.
- Also in 2021, more patches are expected.
