Windows 8: System requirements - how to upgrade
Not every computer that has an older version of Windows installed, such as Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, is suitable for upgrading to Windows 8. Instead, there are some technical system requirements that must be met in order to use the new operating system without any problems.
Windows 8: These basic system requirements are necessary
If you are still using a PC or laptop with Windows 7 or an older version of the operating system and plan to upgrade to Windows 8, your computer must meet some prerequisites for the upgrade to work.- So you need a processor with at least 1 GHz that supports PAE, NX and SSE2.
- Also, depending on whether you plan to install Windows 8 in the 32-bit or 64-bit version, the computer's RAM must be at least 1 or 2 GB, respectively.
- The capacity of the hard drive memory should be at least 16 GB for the 32-bit operating system or 20 GB for the 64-bit operating system.
- The graphics card installed in the PC should be at least a DirectX 9 graphics card with WDDM driver. To use the computer also for playing video games, a DirectX 10 or higher is recommended.
