Expanding iCloud storage: Here's how to do it - and here's how much it costs
After registering, every user gets 5 GB of free storage in iCloud. But depending on how intensively you use Apple's cloud service, that may not be enough. We show you how to expand your iCloud storage and which subscriptions are available to you.
Look at the prices: This is how much iCloud storage you get for your money
The free 5 GB of storage is a good start, but is far from suitable for all purposes. You can create backups, store your photos and use iCloud Drive, but for the full range of iCloud functions (i.e. music, movies, apps, books and more) you need the paid version. When upgrading, you can choose between three levels:- 50 GB costs 0.99 euros per month
- 200 GB costs 2.99 euros per month
- 2 TB costs 9.99 euros per month
Expand iCloud storage: This is how it works
You can activate the upgrade on iOS mobile devices and Mac computers as well as on Windows:- iPhone, iPad and iPod touch from iOS 8: Open the "Settings" and go to "[Your Name]" > "iCloud"> "Manage Storage" and "iCloud Storage" respectively. Via "Buy more storage" or "Change storage plan" you will get to the overview of available subscriptions and can complete them by tapping on "Buy".
- Mac: In the "Apple" menu, open "System Preferences" and click first on "Apple ID" and then on "iCloud". Click "Manage" at the bottom right, then click "Buy more storage." Decide on a subscription, click "Next" and enter your Apple ID password to confirm.
- Windows: Launch iCloud for Windows. Click "Storage" and then click "Change storage plan". After that, select a storage plan and confirm with "Next".
