iPhone: Add music as ringtone - how to do it

Selecting your music as iPhone ringtone works in two different ways. You can either buy music or format a song as a ringtone via iTunes. However, the free way via iTunes is much more cumbersome.

Tone Store: Add music to iPhone as a ringtone

To use your own music as a ringtone for iPhone, it is best to use the Tone Store.
  1. Open the settings on your iPhone.
  2. Under "Tones & Haptics" now open the "Ringtone" menu.
  3. Switch to "Tone Store" you can now buy music, which you can also set as a ringtone.
  4. Select for this in the menu "Ringtone > Load all purchased tones" and select the desired title.

Save music via iTunes as a ringtone

Alternatively, you can transfer tracks that you have stored on CD or on the hard drive in iTunes and then save as a ringtone.
  1. Open iTunes and right-click the title that you want to bring as a ringtone on the iPhone.
  2. Select "Information > Options" and specify start and stop time. The ringtone may be a maximum of 30 seconds long.
  3. Save with "OK" and right-click the title.
  4. Navigate to "File > Convert > Create AAC Version".
  5. Now right-click "Copy" and copy the file to your desktop or a folder that you can easily find again.
