GIFs can be used not only online, for example on Facebook, but also downloaded to your mobile device. How to properly proceed to save a GIF on iPhone, Windows Phone and on Android, we explain here.

How to save a GIF on iOS device

Having found a GIF you like and want to download it to your mobile device, the procedure for doing so depends on what kind of device it is. If you are using an iPhone or iPad from Apple, please proceed as follows:

1. If you are using an iPhone, first tap and hold the GIF you want to save until the context menu appears.
2. Then select "Save Image" from the opened menu to download it to the Photo app of the Apple device.
3. However, the GIF will only be displayed to you in the Photo app as a still image and not as an animation.
4. To view a GIF nevertheless animated on your iPhone or iPad, you must either send it via message to your own device or download it with a special app, such as GifPlayer Free.

Save a GIF: How it works on Android and on Windows Phone

Saving GIFs is also easily possible on Android and on Windows Phone, respectively, by holding down the respective GIF and tapping "Save image" in the context menu. To view the GIFs as an animation after downloading, you also need an additional app here, such as the free GIF Viewer.
